Tragic Swat River Incident June 2025

It was Friday morning on June 27, 2025. A family went on outing along the picturesque Swat River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. They ended in a devastating flash flood. It claimed at least 13 lives and left several others injured or missing. It seemed to be a peaceful picnic but changed into took a catastrophe.

Many reports suggest that this family consist of around 17 people including women and children. They gathered by the river near Fizagat picnic point in Mingora. After breakfast they started their photo session. They were enjoying and taking pictures on a small raised mound on the otherwise dry riverbed. The Swat River suddenly surged within minutes and swept them away into the torrent.

The videos went viral in a moment. It was clear from videos that the group trapped at a narrow sand and stone patch. They were pleading for help before being engulfed. People showed their grief and anger over slow response of rescue services. The 2025 Northern floods by intense pre-monsoon showers hit hard. 32 deaths were reported in 48 hours only in Swat.

Among those swept away were tourist families including Punjab residents and locals. 6 to 12 bodies from the family group were found. A few remained missing.
